๐ Date Difference Calculator
Pick any two dates to find out exactly how far apart they are โ in days, weeks, months, working days, and more.
How Date Difference Works
Calculating the gap between two dates is more nuanced than simple subtraction because months have different lengths, leap years add an extra day every four years (with exceptions for century years), and business contexts require excluding weekends and public holidays. This calculator accounts for all of these factors and expresses the result in multiple useful units simultaneously.
Working Days vs. Calendar Days
Calendar days count every day between two dates regardless of what day of the week they fall on. Working days (also called business days) exclude Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. The distinction matters for legal deadlines, contract timelines, payroll processing, and project planning. A deadline that is "30 business days" away is very different from "30 days away" โ particularly around holiday periods.
Common Uses for Date Difference Calculations
People calculate date differences for a wide variety of practical reasons: determining how long ago a historical event occurred, tracking how many days remain until a vacation or deadline, calculating age in days for a newborn, figuring out loan terms, measuring how long a project has been running, or verifying whether a warranty or subscription is still active. The results in weeks and months can also help when communicating timelines to stakeholders who think in less granular terms than raw days.
